On Thursday I went to Hobbiton, the name they have given the movie set that was used for the Shire filming for the Lord of the Rings trilogy. On the first picture you can see the reason why this location was picked: a (party) tree, standing at the edge of a lake. Looks familiar? It did to me. :)
Me in front of the party tree, where Bilbo Baggins held his birthday speech.
Bag End during the filming. All the flowers, glass, stairs etc. are real.
Bag End now.

The party field plus tree during the filming.
The same field now.
The lake and Sam's house during the filming months.
Present day.

This LOTR film location is one of the few where you can still see some of the materials used. Most materials used were meant to hold for no longer then a couple of months. Bad weather prevented further work on bringing the landscape back to the original form. Therefor we can still see the hobbit holes. If you stand on the party field, you grasp why Peter Jackson loved this place: you can not see a human structure (roads, houses, cables, etc) at all for as far as the eye can see...
To be continued...
